RISH renewed MOU with UPM

A delegation from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), headed by Vice Chancellor NIK Mustapha R. Abdullah, paid a courtesy visit to Vice-President Shuzo NISHIMURA of Kyoto University. Thereafter, the Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere (RISH) of Kyoto University, renewed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation with Universiti Putra Malaysia. The signing ceremony between Director Shuichi KAWAI of RISH and Vice Chancellor NIK of the UPM took place in the guest room of the Clock Tower Centennial Hall on the main campus of Kyoto University.

The first MOU was concluded on March 15, 2000 between the Faculty of Forestry of the UPM and the Wood Research Institute. The College of Agriculture Malaya was reorganized and renamed as UPM in 1973, and the Wood Research Institute also underwent a strategic organizational change to become RISH in 2004, respectively. UPM is the leading university which conducts research in the field of agriculture and forestry in Malaysia.

UPM mainly worked on a core university program under the auspices of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) with RISH. Both institutes concurred that exchanges between them were beneficial and productive. Therefore, RISH signed the MOU with UPM so that there may be a wider range of academic activity in the future.

RISH has so far concluded 9 MOU with various institutes around the world at the department level. However, this is the second MOU with Malaysia.

With the signing of this MOU, a new comprehensive and efficient partnership will be built between the two institutes. Thus, RISH hopes to actively promote academic exchange and enhance educational services through joint research, the joint hosting of symposia, and an exchange of faculty members.
